NatesDay

Leaving at 5:30 CST to drive from StAndrews along 98 to PortStJoe, where this morning I'm to be supply priest at StJames Episcopal Church. These acceptances require more thought than I gave it when their rector called weeks ago asking me to substitute for him: they are on eastern time, their first service is eight o’clock, in order to be there a half hour early we must leave before dawn, and, age related, for safety we no longer drive after dark. Compounding has been uncertainty about Hurricane Nate, which as it happens, is blowing lustily at the moment here on the Bay, so considering possible storm-related delays we’ve decided to leave at 5:15 central.

Yesterday, ordination of a priest at StMark’s Episcopal Church, Troy, Alabama, driven through Troy numerous times en route north and south, but had never been off 231. Seeming traditional Old South genteel beyond imagining but within my memory, this is lovely Episcopal in a lovely Episcopal setting.
