life

Two, two-something o'clock dark when I gave up and opened my eyes, looked at the clock, and closed them again, too comfortable to rouse. Two-thirty-something when I surrendered altogether, got up, ... , and turned on coffee to brew. DeCaf this early, hoping sleepiness will return. First Time in a while that this up too early business has happened. Maybe because, exhausted last evening from doing nothing all day, I was in bed asleep at seven-thirty, "early to bed and early to rise."

It just means that I won't be able to to avoid the morning nap later. I've been trying to cut down on the naps, coffee with noon dinner, e.g., to ward off the two-hour afternoon nap that leaves me uncomfortably groggy for too long. It's an extreme old age thing.

Unusual, not especially alarming, but certainly not normal, all the Alen air cleaners have their red light glowing, why? No outside doors are open, I don't smell smoke (the smoke alarms aren't buzzing anyway, so it's not that), why are the air cleaners upset? They always grow angry, turn from green to red if they sense something cooking, like the hamburgers I cooked us for supper last night. SomeTimes even the coffee brewing, the Alen unit in the hall regularly objects when I make coffee, but this morning they were all glowing red before that. FedEx, "A package from Snake River Farms was delivered 1/30 at 6:54P. See photo and rate delivery," I wonder if the thawing dry ice put off nitrogen fumes? I'll assume it's that, finish tippy-typing this nonsense, and put that box outside the front door. They had a markdown AND a special discount, so I ordered something I've been tempted to try over the years I've been ordering hams from them. These are wagyu beef franks - - we waited for them for the afternoon meal, finally gave up and cooked hamburgers, and FedEx delivered unusually late in their workday. FedEx and UPS do a good job here except during the holiday rush, when they put on extra people who don't care that they don't deliver properly.

OH! The Alen units are glowing green again, so the issue is resolved but not the mystery. Maybe they didn't like me walking through the apartment and stirring up the air? Or, IDK, maybe the HVAC unit draws in air from outside, though I don't think it does. Linda sets the temp here, I don't, this winter she's keeping 7H at 73° - -  outdoors temperature is 43° "feels like 30* because of wind gusts up to 26 mph."

Government isn't supposed to be our enemy. The people running ICE are fools, damn fools, they are alphabet stupid; I could be a lot more foul in my language about them. I wonder how selective they are in who they hire? I wander what training ICE thugs are receiving? ICE seems to be hiring brutes and bullies off the street and they don't seem to realize, as people in their positions should know, that domestic law enforcement is not like military. Kent State and My Lai. They have entirely different reasons for existing, training and orientation and neither they nor military should be used domestically as is being done.

Our local cops and sheriffs and state police (FHP) would not treat people the way ICE is doing. There's a meanness, cruelty, bully personality type that needs to be screened out when hiring law enforcement officers. And those who are hired need training in self-control, crowd management, and minding people's rights, training, and regular checking, and cutting those who show themselves to be in it for the chance to beat up and kill people. And investigation and prosecution for breaking the law - - undue force and murder.

One of the people for whom I have the least respect, the greatest contempt in life, is a man who early in his life was military police and loved telling about beating the hell out of drunk soldiers; I remember the gleam in his eyes as he relived roughing people up, hitting people with his nightstick. Even still in his later life he's the biggest loser I've ever come across. No, especially in his later vocation, for which he was totally unsuited; he's just plain damn mean, it's inconceivable how the psychiatric examination let him slip through the discernment process.

Saturday it is, Sat Jan 31 3:59 AM. A mug of decaf and the last bite of the last of the loaves of Italian panettone bread that I ordered for Christmas, that nobody seemed to like but me. I ordered several different flavors, this one was lemon. I won't order panettone again!

Anyway, a hotdog for lunch, maybe even for breakfast. Something of an outlier, I put mayonnaise on my hotdogs. Or mustard. Sauerkraut. Chili no beans. Coleslaw. It varies. One favorite topping I mixed myself: half and half Senf, German mustard, and Hellmann's Real Mayo. Try it, Sam I Am, you may like it, Sam I Am.
