happy presidents day

Stormy yesterday morning, we stayed in and caught our church service online. Being able to do everything at home online is one of the interesting positive developments of covid.

My experience in it all includes that I never again have to wander, pushing a shopping cart/walker, around a store looking for a widget. I can order it online, including from that same store. Or if for some reason I MUST go to the store, I can go already having searched online to find exactly what aisle and shelf that widget is displayed on in the local store.

Watched the Bay early this morning as a mix of white wading birds, and a large flock of white ducks of some kind, fished for their breakfast in a small area just below 7H porch. They were in a place that from my porch looked black bottom with sea-grass, instead of a sandy bottom, maybe two or three feet deep there. The water is perfectly clear and I watched ducks underwater, streaking about as they pursued fish, minnows, or maybe tiny mullet.

Watching them stirred my taste for fish, so three of Gorton's fish fillets for my breakfast, baked following directions and enjoyed on brown seed bread, each fillet with cheese melted over, and a touch of mayonnaise. Salted with my potassium NoSalt, which is close but not quite, but as well as satisfying my taste for salt, helps resupply the potassium that the furosemide pills cause to deplete.

Second mug of hot & black to wash my fish fillets down. Then pills, prescription meds that supposedly are helping keep me in fair health; including FuroForty today, seeing that we have no plans for leaving 7H this Presidents Day holiday.

Heart and mind on Nancy Guthrie, the terrible shaking debilitating fear she surely knew as she was taken from her home and away by the unspeakable subhuman obscenity whom we observed on national news as he was filmed by her door watch camera. What a smart, brave man, eh? Forensic science is so advanced that in Time, which Mrs Gurhrie does not have, did not have, he surely will be identified and arrested.

Anger, outrage - - I will not say, and friends and loved ones in my life would be shocked and would not understand, and the U S Constitution forbids, my Deep South sense of how the kidnapper, likely murderer, should be dealt with for treating another person, an ill elderly woman, as he has done. When it comes to dealing with evil people, I'm an Old Testament fan.

Presidents Day. In my Cove School years, February was a fun month, with three big celebrations in our classroom. George Washington Day, Abraham Lincoln Day, Valentines Day. Using red and green and black and white paper, scissors and glue, we cut out hearts, axes, cherry trees, profiles of Washington and Lincoln, and posted them above the blackboards all the way around the classroom. For Valentine's Day we'd made that fancy box that everyone dropped Valentines in for other class members. I never wanted to be identified with whichever cute girl I had a crush on at the moment, so the Valentines I dropped in the box were all alike, the same Valentine for each fellow student.

Once we were in high school it was all different, no Valentine celebrations, no Christmas gift exchanges, no cutting out turkeys and indian chief head-dress feathers at Thanksgiving.

Good, I'm good for the day. Got my income tax stuff ready to take to Miles tomorrow morning, then we'll drive on a bit further to Fresh Market and maybe stop at World Market while we're there at Pier Park. But for today, Monday, I think it's nap Time.

For which,
