Monday: IDK

Image
Uneasy. Nothing special but Time, looks to be an ordinary Monday morning developing out there, eh?, what's bothering me then? IDK, something.  War in Ukraine heading toward stalemate and ultimate decline into Russia's favor. US reluctant to provide offensive missiles. If intending to prevail, it is sheer stupidity to fight a limited war against a country with comparatively unlimited resources. It's the same stupidity as expecting economic and other sanctions to be effective against a country with any sense of National Pride. Of course, war itself is stupidity, but that's hardly the point. I'm living in a world of idiocy. Is that it? IDK, but no. Destin. I don't read Sean of the South every morning, but yesterday morning's essay about Destin caught my eye and burned a bit. There was a day & age in my own Time when Destin was a place just beyond the eternally landmarking twin mounds of orange sherbet on the Gulf side of US98, of a few cottages under the ...

land that I love

Gone now, beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent lightning in clouds to the east and south of 7H when I first went out on the porch early predawn darkness this Sunday morning.  stand beside her. and guide her. Couple squares of dark chocolate along with first mug of hot & black to open the morning along with the laptop lid. Not taking care, pulling the half-finished mug of coffee off the prayerbook where it was perched, onto the living room rug. The good news is that this oriental rug from Linda's step-father's living room is of such pattern that you'll never notice whether there's stain or no stain; the bad news is that Bubba doesn't really care all that much about this magic carpet anyway. And there's more good news: it's not my condo anyway; the beloved next generation can deal with it and I don't think they especially like this rug either. Why use the rug then? Because it's got so many colors and patterns in it that it ties together all the much ...

second breakfast

Frustration: the total physical and mental discombobulation when this happens -> I eat what I'm sure is a safe breakfast and it collapses on me. At breakfast I avoid bread and other carb foods because they bring down disabling post-prandial hypotension, drop in blood pressure with wobbly dizziness of trying to make it to the bed before falling. This morning - - why am I telling this, it's nobody's business but mine - - I baked two tomato slices, two slices of bacon crumbled over them, laid cheese slices on top. Baked until bubbling furiously, then out onto my long rectangular plate that I bought at Stone Lantern in Highlands years ago.  It made a lovely presentation, pleasing both to eye and tongue. Mug of hot & black with, and my usual collection of heart-related pills.  Delicious. And safe enough, eh? No, within minutes the dizzy feeling in my neck came on almost instantly, and BP, which normally runs 106/60, had plummeted to 76/42. Quickly into bed to give it Time...

Oh my goodness! Innocence ravaged, rubbished! No, seriously; from scanning various news sites online this morning, I decided to open Fox News for a change: it was like picking up one of those tabloids at the supermarket checkout line. OMG, what trash! Nope. A dumpster dive. Makes me feel the need for a scrub brush, a bar of grammaw's lye-soap, and a total immersion bath. Sensationalist garbage. Why? To create hatred, stir and ignite. What, a metaphor: Good Friday preaching that enrages "Christians" against Jews and incites them to storm out screaming "Christ killer" to murder innocent people - - a regular Good Friday nightmare that is indeed part of Christian history The greatest sin is certitude, religious certainty, religious, moral, political, racial, It works in all directions and goes round and round with revenge, like a hate-filled Hatfield-McCoy feud, a cycle of vengeance that knows no beginning or end and cannot be resolved Israeli Jews trashing gravesto...

I like it quiet

Image
Sittin' on the dock of the Bay Watchin' the tide roll away sings a sign Linda had at The Old Place, that is now part of 7H porch.  Half an hour ago when I came out here with hot & black, the morning was still and quiet. In a few minutes I heard the first ripple come ashore, then more. Then steady, almost regular. Loud to me because I have my ears in, otherwise I'd hear nothing of it. First thing mornings, I put on a pair of eyeglasses, then contemplate whether to put in the ears - - a tough one, because I like it quiet. But ears this morning. Not a ship or boat, the Bay is void of traffic, nothing moving but the sea itself, so the wave action I hear has got to be the incoming tide. Warm, feels a bit warm even for July, and muggy, the humidity is 87% and makes the dawning day feel like 90° Life on 7H porch, life and Time, Time with a capital "T" because Time is all we have, an awareness that I've become more and more conscious of (split preposition, who c...

lives and Times

Two o'clock in the morning, 2:43 a.m., soon three o'clock, way predawn dark out here on 7H porch, the lights of a single craft out on St Andrews Bay, a shrimp boat trawling. They're night workers, but we watched them go out early last evening, let their net down well before sunset. People working to make a living.  In the dark, the faint sound of voices back and forth may be coming across the water from people on the shrimp boat, IDK. Or it may be people camping overnight on the beach below or in the park next door.  Not necessarily the best, but If one is lazy, then eighty-something and retired is the good better part of life. Except perhaps to reclaim some memories and moments, I have no desire whatsoever to be younger, nor would I swap places with any young, younger person under the sun.  Okay, I ramble by nature. What do I remember about shrimp boats? Forty to forty-five years ago, waking up this hour at The Old Place, all windows open as there was no air condi...

one thing I know

Big news this morning, Ukraine has again disrupted the highway bridge between Russia and Crimea, the attack reportedly killing a couple, injuring and orphaning their daughter, who is hospitalized for treatment. I have in heart and mind a personal God, an anthropomorphic sort of Pantokrator whose own heart and mind grieves over this child's pain and sorrow, and over our warring ways here on Earth. Earth that is such a minuscule part of the Creation that evolved from "yeh-HI" the Big Bang, which this morning's Bigger news now estimates may have been 26.7 billion years ago instead of the 13.8 billion years in place in recent years. Bigger news, but obscure and lost in our garbage pit of self-importance.  So, 13,800,000,000 years or 26,700,000,000 years, who cares and why does it matter, why Should it matter? Well, the poet Thomas Hardy had it right, and it matters because it further reduces our notions of our own importance to the microscopic absurdity that we must surel...
