This is a great place to live. A cold has come on suddenly, and not only is there a box of kleenex at hand, but also there happened to be a roast chicken, which Linda shredded and made into chicken soup. Absolutely delicious chicken soup, best ever. Even Harry Golden’s mother couldn’t have made chicken soup this good. For supper last night I had a bowl, and now a mug for breakfast. Bit of chicken and touch of rice, but mainly the broth.
For lunch with our Bible study after our 11:30 noon Eucharist, pulled pork sandwiches. As we were closing last Wednesday noon, the group said they’d like to talk about the virgin birth next, which is today, so we’ll do that. It’s timely, with “Mary Sunday” coming up, the readings from Isaiah 7 and Matthew 1. To throw in a monkey wrench there’s also a reading from Romans in which Paul says Jesus was “made of the seed of David according to the flesh.” (Romans 1:3b, KJV). Chicken soup, Paul, and pork sandwiches with the BVM, I don’t know.
My experience in long years is that some are always open to discussing various possibilities and others can seem almost frantic to defend the Doctrine. It seems to depend in some part not on Reason but on religious background and on how important the Doctrine has been and is in the faith, life and spirituality of each person; and this seems so not only in small group discussions but especially in authoring published articles.
Today we close out our Wednesday Noon Eucharist and Bible study sessions for the holiday season. We plan to resume Wednesday, January 15th.
