Transfiguration
Today is Last Epiphany Sunday, the Grand Epiphany of Jesus Christ on the mountaintop with Moses and Elijah, transfigured before Peter, James and John. Before going to the first daily reading from Luke for the Lent 2018 season of The Good Book Club, it’s right to acknowledge this second of two grand epiphanies, even theophanies, of the church year (the first being the Baptism of Christ). The Transfiguration of Christ is heavenly fireworks, a holy spectacle known more brilliantly in the mind's imagination than in words or print.
Art, and perhaps especially iconography, shines with artistic wonder, the blinding brilliance of the event. To sample, a link
