Friday: grey

What does it say? - - "it" being the weather link on my cellphone. It says 81°F, 93% humidity, feels like 91°F, and indeed it does. Muggy, I would say, close. Not much variance ahead though, only up to 84° by two o'clock this afternoon. Fine by me.

Only son Joe is due in tomorrow, Saturday, his mother's birthday, from his recently new home, Louisville, Kentucky. To arrive first thing, about eight o'clock, and staying through until Tuesday afternoon, GW&Flights aren't cancelled. We've been looking forward to this. Owing to covid and all, we've not seen Joe for about two years, so his visit takes precedence over everything on our calendar, everything else cancelled or rescheduled or deferred. Plus TJCC will be vacationing at where? Seaside? one of the stretches of resort beach along there in Walton County. Kris and Malinda will be joining us for visits, meals, &c.

Where've I been this morning? Sean of the South wrote from his overnight train ride from New Orleans to New York, so I logged onto Amtrak and took several trips. My favorite was to board the Sunset Limited at Chipley and head west. Sean is right, train travel is far superior to flying in America these days. I remember one evening we boarded the Sunset Limited westbound in Tallahassee, and the first thing the attendant said to us, before we were even on the train, as he lifted our luggage aboard, was "Mr and Mrs Weller, we're waiting supper for you in the dining car." We had rainbow trout, maybe a glass of white wine, and then headed to our bedroom. Train travel is the excelsior of life.

Breakfast just now: deer sausage baked in toaster oven, on a slice of American rye bread, squiggle of yellow mustard. Black coffee.
