Chevrolet is one of my all Time favorite car makes and I've owned a passel of 'em. Robert likes the previous iteration (1949 to 1952),

+++

and I do too, but if someone offered me my absolute first pick it would be a Chevy I never owned, a 1953 Chevrolet 210 two door sedan,

the one above - - except that any dedicated car person recognizes its major, devaluating flaw, that somewhere along its life someone changed the top choice perfect 1953 taillights

to 1954 Chevy taillights.

But it's nevertheless an ideal car, the two door sedan design for 1953 and 1954 is neat, clean (without the extra gunk on the BelAir model), perfectly balanced, and I'd want mine with power steering and power brakes, but the three-on-the-tree stick shift instead of the two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission that some people liked to deride as Weaklingglide.

Parked next to the '53, the other perfect Chevy I'd want in my garage would be a 1955 two door sedan also a clean series 210 model, a V8 also with stick shift although I'll love the automatic just as much if that's what you show up with, and yes,

red and white, for my birthday.

Better make it tomorrow: at this extreme old age my birthday is a long way off.

In the Old Time, every car manufacturer thought they had to offer a "complete line" of models - - four door sedan, two door sedan, club coupe, business coupe, convertible, station wagon - - in two or more price line series - - and in the low price line (we had three lines, low price, medium price, and high price) the low price bottom line made it quite clear that your family was struggling, so why not buy a middle of the line like the 210 Chevy instead of the 150 series?!.

Or a Buick Super instead of Special.

Except for the pre-and postwar Chevys, where I like the coupe design better than the roach-back two door sedan, I always liked, and still do, the two door sedan over the coupe models, because they were better balanced, the coupes had too long a trunk. Not an issue anymore though, in traditional American car brands, and only Chevrolet and Dodge offer sedans, everybody wants to drive a tall box SUV.

Why the aitch didn't I buy these cars when they were new, or slightly used and cheap, and keep them.

It's rhetorical, so not putting a question mark.

Drafted this blogpost several days ago, publishing it this morning with an addition. Friday afternoon we went to Hunt's because I wanted oysters and hadn't had theirs in months - - at Hunt's there's often a long wait outside and I'm not into queues, but we arrived at three o'clock and there was practically nobody there. Had a dozen each of their "house" oysters (from Louisiana) and of their "premium" (their terms) oysters, from somewhere else, I think here in Florida but not positive. Both were thin and watery and not even in the same ballpark with the Alabama oysters I've had two or three Times recently at Gene's. But Hunt's grilled whole red snapper (just a little fellow) was exquisite beyond delicious; and the fried Bay scallops at Hunt's far exceed those served anywhere else, are worth going to Hunt's just for those.

Happy Saturday, happy long weekend with Presidents' Day Monday. In my day we had two February holidays, George Washington's Birthday and Abraham Lincoln's Birthday. Nowadays those are combined into one, Presidents' Day, because of MLK Day being added a generation or so ago.

All that ad today is Valentine's Day. So,
