Ecce, quam bonum!

Psalm 133  Ecce, quam bonum!

1
Oh, how good and pleasant it is, *
when brethren live together in unity!

2
It is like fine oil upon the head *
that runs down upon the beard,

3
Upon the beard of Aaron, *
and runs down upon the collar of his robe.

4
It is like the dew of Hermon *
that falls upon the hills of Zion.

5
For there the LORD has ordained the blessing: *
    life for evermore.
Sometimes it’s a stretch, but there is usually a discernible reason for our psalm selection for each Sunday. The psalm is meant to complement the Old Testament lesson in some way. For Sunday, August 14 the lesson is the emotional scene in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat when Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. Psalm 133 enhances the reading, Genesis 45:1-15, by bringing a teaching about brotherly love out of the story.
This completes our readings from Genesis. Next we shall move on to the first chapter of Exodus and hear about Moses in the Bullrushes. Reading these forgotten old Sunday school Bible stories lends excitement to our Sunday worship during the Season after Pentecost. Don’t miss it!
Ecce, quam bonum! Behold, how good!
