Iraqi court sentences vice president to death as opposition bombs kill 100, Israel presses for red line against Iran’s nuclear program as Israeli PM seeks to manipulate U.S. elections, U.S. hands over Bagram prison to Afghans, new government of Egypt looking responsible, Saban shocked that Saturday’s game wasn’t a sell-out, Canada cuts diplomatic ties with Iran, headed for 100-0 score Saturday night football “game” mercifully ended by heavenly intervention, car bomb kills 17 in Syria as rebels fight on, and the only worthy thing about the U.S. election is the comics.
We had a caution yesterday. Arriving home from church, Linda turned on a table lamp in the family room and went to another part of the house. As I entered the room, the lamp she had just turned on went off like a Roman candle on the 4th of July, loud fizzing, flashing, flames shooting high, and smoke. It only slowed when I reached down behind and jerked the plug from the electrical outlet. No point speculating “what if nobody had been home,” but our resolve is never again to leave a lamp unattended.
