Iowan?
Iowan Old Style? 'Iowan Old Style is a lovely text face based on historical Venetian models. Iowan was designed by John Downer, who is equally well known for his fantastic sign-painting work.' Once again, scrolling down to select a familiar font, I pass a new one and opt to try it. Nice lower case “g” for one thing. But then I never know whether the blogger site will be too picky to accept my odd font, so it may only show up on my early morning rough draft.
The moon is a ghostly galleon again, tossed upon cloudy seas off to the west. Seems to have been raining, at least lightly, a few drops on head and shoulders as I stepped out beyond the roof eave, and the slightest not even drops from the sky as I paused to look at the flashing green light, why do I do that to myself? Just a damp haze to the morning, and the street isn’t even wet except where the lawn sprinkler hit it. Oddly the obnoxious zone that lies in wait for me most mornings was on as I dodged it walking down, off as I headed back to the house forty seconds later, lucky happenstance for me, though I suspect the system was simply pausing to note my habits.
On my mind is the Gospel of Thomas, last Tuesday we read through logia 63, will pick up tomorrow morning at 64. Here are those two:
63 Jesus said, There was a rich person who had a great deal of money. He said, "I shall invest my money so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouses with produce, that I may lack nothing." These were the things he was thinking in his heart, but that very night he died. Anyone here with two ears had better listen!
64 Jesus said, A person was receiving guests. When he had prepared the dinner, he sent his slave to invite the guests. The slave went to the first and said to that one, "My master invites you." That one said, "Some merchants owe me money; they are coming to me tonight. I have to go and give them instructions. Please excuse me from dinner." The slave went to another and said to that one, "My master has invited you." That one said to the slave, "I have bought a house, and I have been called away for a day. I shall have no time." The slave went to another and said to that one, "My master invites you." That one said to the slave, "My friend is to be married, and I am to arrange the banquet. I shall not be able to come. Please excuse me from dinner." The slave went to another and said to that one, "My master invites you." That one said to the slave, "I have bought an estate, and I am going to collect the rent. I shall not be able to come. Please excuse me." The slave returned and said to his master, "Those whom you invited to dinner have asked to be excused." The master said to his slave, "Go out on the streets and bring back whomever you find to have dinner."
Buyers and merchants [will] not enter the places of my Father.
Sounding quite familiar, though a bit "huh?" at the end, yet most of the scholars I am reading for this little study say that Thomas is independent, did not copy from the synoptics and the synoptics did not copy from Thomas.
If I can hold my mind together after my walk, rush home to shower, enjoy 0930 Monday morning staff meeting (HNEC staff meetings are almost invariably enjoyable), and home for the rest of the day, I will email the Tuesday Bible Seminar folks reminding them of class tomorrow. Had a full table, but that varies depending on what people are doing.
Had a full table in Adult Sunday School yesterday too, a bit tight in fact, so before next Sunday will need to find my two tables that went missing over the summer.
