“ … And if this hadn’t happened, he would never have come off his shift that morning and caught sight of her. With those red shoes and her gold brooch and all her burnished brown hair. And that laughter of hers, which, for the rest of his life, would make him feel as if someone was running around barefoot on the underside of his breast.
“She often said that, ‘all roads lead to something you were always predestined to do.’ And for her, perhaps, it was something.
“But for Ove it was someone.”
A Man Called Ove I’m reading, a book, a Christmas gift I opened and started reading while the living room floor was still covered with wrapping. Tass gives me books she’s read and knows I’ll love, and this is one. Novel about a man called Ove (oo-vuh), a Swede who drives a Saab. Reading slowly, slowing down, a chapter or two and lay it aside, not wanting the book to end!! Touching lines that trigger the right brain.
Football? Red streaks, crimson lightning bolts that the Washington line couldn’t stop from striking their quarterback. Fiesta Bowl: though we turned it off by eight o’clock, loved watching Urban Meyer furiously slam something to the ground, love 31-0, my only regret is that there’s not some way Ohio State could have been shut out by Clemson and then go on to have Alabama render Buckeye Butter.
Raining, slightest at the moment, raindrops against the Bay window by my chair. Dark, 64° 98% Wind 13 mph. New Year
Earth and all stars, loud rushing planets,
sing to the Lord a new song!
O victory, loud shouting army,
sing to the Lord a new song!
He has done marvelous things.
I, too, will praise him with a new song!
Hail, wind, and rain, loud blowing snowstorms,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Flowers and trees, loud rustling leaves,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Trumpet and pipes, loud clashing cymbals,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Harp, lute, and lyre, loud humming cellos,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Engines and steel, loud pounding hammers,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Limestone and beams, loud building workers,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Classrooms and labs, loud boiling test tubes,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Athlete and band, loud cheering people,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Knowledge and truth, loud sounding wisdom,
sing to the Lord a new song!
Daughter and son, loud praying members,
sing to the Lord a new song!
He has done marvelous things.
I, too, will praise him with a new song!
