vast expanse

Clear 34° calm, 74%, wind NNE 1 mph, fine for this morning’s walk, likely StAndrewsBay along EBeachDr, from time to time Massalina Bayou. Steady and faithful, the walks are not as long as four or five years ago when we started, walking by the 1940s homes to touch base with each classmate, Cove School class of 1949. We are dwindling, maybe half a dozen more died since then.

What happened to them, what happens to us when we die? On this side, it depends on our Faith, on what’s our devoutly held, fervently believed Religion, doesn’t it, perhaps the comfort of a reasonable and holy hope, in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those we love*? On the other side, what, perhaps dusty oblivion or perhaps the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, after this fragile earth, our island home** or perhaps driving across the sky in my Oldsmobile, it's all very exciting, IDK and for all our fervence neither does pope or dalai lama. But for now, oh, we don’t want to talk about that, did you know that at the center core of each galaxy - - of which in this universe alone there are billions, at least a couple hundred billion galaxies in that vast expanse of interstellar space - - there is a black hole, around which the galaxy circles racing at maddening speed? Is each black hole ravenously consuming its galaxy? More tea, Vicar?
