Tuesday

This opening day of Hurricane Season, earth seems peaceful enough from here. Warm, 79F and heading for 84F. Humidity was 90% earlier, 72% at the moment.

The osprey nest I've been watching these past few years,

more than six years because I started while we were still living in the Old Place

is located at Boulder County Fairgrounds, Longmont, Colorado.

The resident female bird of long years returned, the years-resident male bird did not, so there's a new dad bird this year. They have four eggs,

unfortunately, according to what I read in the chat room, three eggs are ruined, one egg is hopeful. The nest has been harassed by large black birds,

someone said they're grackles. I got this pic this morning by backing up camera #2 and watching the mother bird's defense of her nest. And, below, her returning to the nest after a few minutes away.

This is an interesting, fun and, once one gets into it, a very dear nest, couple, family, hatchlings, chicks, fledglings, sudden migrations late summer early fall, and we always cheer them on. Last year was a disaster, starting with a late season blizzard, hoping for better this year.

We have ospreys here at 7H and love watching them fly close by the window and the porch rail, and diving for fish right here in front of us, hearing their piercing call, and watching when we see them rise from the Bay water and head back to their nest clutching a fish.

Contemplating the lectionary readings for this coming Sunday. In the OT we're reading good old time Sunday School bible stories, this one about the people disgusting Samuel and God by wanting a king when God is supposed to be their only king. Samuel is enraged, but God tells him to let them have their damn king, they'll regret it soon enough.

The second lesson is from 2nd Corinthians, which we'll be reading into this summer. Madge will have Sunday's 10:30 worship service bulletin posted online today or tomorrow, whoever will may read it at our HNEC website.

What's happening churchwise is that Jesus is ascended, and God is as distant as ever, and we are stuck here in the Age of the Spirit trusting in the Promise and waiting for the Second Coming that Paul said was to happen in his lifetime.

We remember his Death, We proclaim his Resurrection, We await his Coming in Glory: what do you make of this Second Coming business anyway? IDK. We in this shaky so-called postmodern era, when there is said to be "no objective truth", have a far different world view to that of St Paul and the other ancients of the Christian Church; for one thing, as I keep reminding myself, I have a telescope while Paul thought everything ended at the upside down blue bowl that Genesis 1 calls The Firmament, that holds out the waters.

Speaking of differing world views, the satanic, dangerous nut fringe is on the loose: from a conference in Texas, Forbes Magazine reports,

Flynn, a former three-star general who received a pardon from Trump in November for lying to the FBI had the most viral moment of the event, who responded to an audience question by stating there is “no reason” the U.S. shouldn’t have a coup like the one in Myanmar in February, adding, “It should happen.”

Stupendously consummate evil to the core, this rotten cancer of violent hate will bring down the republic and, like Samuel's people who wanted a king, people will get what they wish for. God help us, but as Heilsgeschichte proves again and again, God lets us have our way and stew in it. One wonders how God can stand us.

My hope for the day: an osprey hatchling. As of this moment, Mom bird is still sitting, setting, waiting
