Hovering
Every Day Is A Beautiful Day
Except when a hurricane surge comes up in the front yard, there are few disadvantages living right on St. Andrews Bay. Large ships headed to or from Port Panama City glide by twice because of the u-shaped channel, headed east far out then west close in arriving, headed east close in then west far out going to sea. Pine trees that weren’t there fifty years ago diminish the view of Shell Island but help hold the beach. Some wee morning hours, Gulf of Mexico surf roars from four miles distant. Sunrise and sunsets over the Bay are often spectacular, seldom ordinary. Boats with unmuffled engines shrimping in the Bay out front once disturbed the peace all night long, but haven’t heard them in years. Coming in from the Gulf and dwarfing the Bay, hovering storm clouds seem low and ominous before bursting.
