Inching Along

Sizable ship slipping by my porch heading into port as I write. Too dark to tell which one, but either Juan Diego 326’ LOA or Oslo Bulk 355’ LOA. Which reminds. Sunday afternoon the Global Andes (pic above) 601’ LOA x 105’ beam arrived carrying steel plate from Brake (Germany, say "brah-ka") and she was moving slowly, inching her way in, why? Evidently taking great care about channel depth lest she run aground with her 35’ draft loaded. Flying an American flag.

Weather channel website says 44F 72%. A few degrees warmer here at 7H, it was 48F when I peered out. Clear, moon and stars, good walk morning, wear warm.

Church Kalendar, why the cutesy “K” IDK, once knew, don’t recall, do remember that it used to call itself Ordo Kalendar.
Maybe look that up, we’ll be in Tallahassee this week, I’ll have time while the girls are at school. But white liturgical color goes through next Sunday because the Sunday after The Epiphany is observed as The Baptism of Christ, and that’s white. In due course the church may/should work round to observing The Baptism of Christ as The Epiphany, January 6, photis day of light, instead of Matthew’s story ἰδοὺ μάγοι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν, behold magi from (the) east. In the Baptism story from the synoptics, as Jesus comes up out of the baptismal waters of the River Jordan, the heavens break open, the Spirit lights on him as a dove, and a voice from heaven, “thou art my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” With the official proclamation from heaven, that’s a more powerful epiphany story than the Star of Bethlehem and the Magi.

Besides, there’s an XnRt element that goes off hysterical at the hint of magic, anything magical, a word that arrives with the Magi and their gifts, one wonders they haven’t snipped Matthew 2:1-12 out of their Bible.

Walk this morning, draft 1030 bulletin booklet for next Sunday, staff meeting, Tyndall for a haircut. $10 with tip, and yep, I agree that’s a 1928 Chandler on the reverse of my old ten dollar bill. Check it out.
