The picture is yesterday looking out across StAndrewsBay toward Davis Point. At 6:30 we had what for a Florida Gulf Coast native was a perfect late spring early summer morning: 81° 87% wind SSE 12 mph felt like 88° and salt smell in the air. Tropical storm still clearing the area, too hazy to see across Shell "Island" into the Gulf of Mexico, but a salty breeze, a link of deer sausage cooking in the little oven at 285° and a hoagie bun warming on top. Mug of black. Smear of an English mustard jam and glass of water to suppress combustion.

Two ospreys just off 7H porch, one chirping shrilly as s/he circles above the Bay looking for a fish. Other lifting up just out of my arm's reach while clutching what looked like a small catfish, heading back to the nest. My osprey nest at Boulder County Fairgrounds, Colorado had two tiny birds but the older one died, apparently choking on something caught in its throat. So there's one baby osprey. Losing three eggs in the freezing blizzard and now this, the osprey residents are not having their best year.

Recently read a defiantly indignant rant claiming "I am not a racist" from as blindly self-certain a racist as humans can become.

Someone wrote, and as a child of the Deep South I agree, there is no such thing as "not a racist", a common defensive claim. Whoever asserts that claim is a racist making it in denial, blind to self. There are racists and anti-racists, but there are no "not a racists".
