Sunday's coming
Hurricane Ian wrought destruction and death across the lower part of Florida, and Hurricane Nicole exacerbated it with more deaths, shore erosion and damage to buildings and property at the shoreline. There will be more in the future as storms increase in intensity, but we can begin to relax for half a Time as hurricane season winds down.
So also as election results come in, my faith, hope, confidence in Americans is rescued from despair, relieved, restoring, even encouraged, as here and there across the country, so many folks turned out to go to the polls specifically to rebuff extremism, negativity, fantasy, deniers and lies, liars, and horrifying aggressiveness; the prospect of increasing government bullying oversight in citizens' lives; and the perversion of smug religious certainty inserted into politics and forced on people.
Coming from an earlier era that has been called the Silent Generation, I am grateful and tremendously relieved if people are awakening to the dangers facing America, and I feel as though 2022 may not be 1933 in Germany after all, that the bullet missed this Time. May people increasingly realize what is happening with the uglification of politics, and keep returning to vote it down, fight it back. Our system has worked, works, and will continue to work if, and as long as, decent people are vigilant and stay alarmed.
++++++++++++
The sky is dark, the hour early, wind from due North at 16 mph, temperature 47°F and dropping to 44° before sunrise three hours from now, with a bright and sunny if cool Sunday promised. The forecast does show 100% chance of rain for Tuesday, but this is here and now and Time to smile hopefully.
