Wright or Wrought?

Last night we had a brief, fleeting sunset and moments later back to gray. There might be a sermon there. At least a statement. Naanh.

Out here on the porch in predawn darkness, I could grow fond of that flashing green light that I see now, and that I saw then from my house every morning as I went down front to get Linda’s newspaper. Saw and spoke to. Monologued with. And from the cedar at My Laughing Place. Jay Gatsby, “Is that you, Daisy? Daisy?” Nothing about Jay's life was real, it was fantasy, a dream. Even his dream was about a fantasy. A blinking green light across the water: Daisy? Daisy wasn’t real either, she was other, there was nothing there. In the end even Jay Gatsby wasn’t real, but the ghost of Jimmy Gatz. A dream. A vapor.

Scattered on the ground, the plane, that Russian airliner, was in pieces before hitting the ground. What caused that, the deaths of 224 people including 17 children. One hopes it wasn’t other people, doesn’t one; how hating and pointedly hateful humans can be to each other, and when we are here so briefly. Religion can be turned into the worst that we can be, when we might be encouraging each other. http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/10/31/when-your-children-complain-about-what-they-get-for-christmas-show-them-this-video/ Someone wrote of our religious stories, that the myths are truer than the facts. I’m thinking of Genesis 6:5-7 and relatives, probably parents and doting grandparents of victims, who in their grief said they were wondering what life is worth, whether life is worth living. One could go into despair so deep there is no way out but one. Who or What is God; and Where. One loves God by loving neighbor? We are the image of God? Metaphor, or predicate nominative? Jesus Christ. What have we wrought?

FB last night had a NASA clip. A fantastical scan of a tiny spot inof the universe, of only one speck, just a dram. http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/01/20/nasa-has-released-the-largest-picture-ever-taken-it-will-rock-your-universe/ If it doesn’t stir theological implications, you just don’t get it.

Bible Seminar this morning: Gospel of Mary (Magdalen), Gospel of Judas (Iscariot), Infancy Gospel of Thomas.
