and it came to pass

Monday morning, 26 March, delightfully cool and Florida damp, looking south across StAndrews Bay, shrimp boats gliding back and forth in front of 7H all night long and still. Diving birds out for breakfast. Overcast sky, yay I showed up again this morning, thank you, God, and every day is a beautiful day.

Great God - - “Parkland students should learn CPR, not protest,” says one imbecilic politician quoted on television this morning - - Almighty damn. And what beyond the pale that appeared on my FB page yesterday before instantly deleted, something beyond human stupidity to the effect, “They can’t name the three branches of government but are trying to dictate gun policy;” as though you need a course in civics in order to know that you don’t want someone coming in to your school and shooting, but the adults won’t stop it so you have to do something yourself. Holy God, we are immersed in a sea of blithering idiots as in idiot, imbecile, moron, have mercy, deliver us. But God will not deliver, and we are left for frightened schoolchildren to rise up in just outrage and do what’s right because we are a contemptible generation of and for self alone.

CPR indeed. No assault weapons. Meaningful background checks.

Holy Week with its promise: Easter lilies with buds, one plant leftover from last Easter at church now six plants, some with buds. Perhaps by Sunday their blossoms will fragrance 7H like the Garden that First Day of the week more than twenty centuries ago.

My prayer and hope: the fact that we disagree so deeply on things so vital does not mean we no longer can respect each other as friends and loved ones. But if it does, I don’t mind standing here alone. Life is short, and we haven’t much time … why should we risk it being even shorter for our children instead of doing everything possible to protect them. There are worlds of difference in wanting and having guns as a fascinating collection of magnificence like a collection of art, or old cars, or turkey beards, and wanting guns for sport, hunting, target practice, clay pigeons, v having guns that were developed for killing other human beings in warfare. As my Hebrew lesson eases off, I am going to try and find something to read, study, that will help me understand you better, why we must contemn, despise, and hate each other so; why we can’t talk and meet somewhere; because I do not understand, and I don’t want to lose you, or us to lose each other. But it's happening, has happened, is coming to pass. Is there a Way Back for us?

Maybe we need to become two nations after all.
