Monday Amen
In the Name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
ALMIGHTY God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
If one feels the need for regular solitude prayer there are benefits to rising very early mornings: quiet, lone. No distractions except awareness the coffee is cooling and needs sipping, ice-maker dropping cubes or is that a burglar.
Small light on, sit comfortably. Invocation. Collect that is Anglican mantra, in first person singular if desired. “... cleanse the thoughts of my heart ... that I may perfectly love thee ... .” Close eyes and be. Don’t squeeze prayer words through the mind, just be, present to the same silence Elijah heard.

When attention shifts from the sound of silence to the sound of tinnitus, think Amen, open eyes and begin day. This morning mine begins with Armchair Mystic by Mark E. Thibodeaux, S.J., chapter 2: “Aunt Sally.” There’s enough quiet ahead for one chapter before dawn stirs and the silence is broken.
