From Jesuit Retreat Center, Grand Coteau, Louisiana. My third silent directed retreat has ended, now I’m allowed to go online and look at the news, and Linda and I went out for cajun supper last night. Gumbo, catfish, cajun band and crawfish platter.

American president cancels meeting with Russian president because of Edward Snowden? Is miff guiding US foreign relations or is the tail wagging the dog? Snowden isn’t even the tail, he’s the flea in a metaphor where a dog scoots his butt across a rug in the Oval office. 

Couldn’t care less about Russian warships calling at Cuba, both sovereign nations. Important thing is that 1958 Chevrolet sedan on the pier near the Russian warship. 

1958 is the year Chevy introduced the Impala as new top of the line over their previous top of the line Bel Air. Is the Chevy on the pier an Impala or a Bel Air? The 1958 Impala had taillights with three lenses, that car on the pier seems to have Bel Air taillights with two lenses. But that looks like Impala trim down the side.

America invades Iraq, America abandons Iraq, Iraq collapses into anarchy of hatred, Iraq-Al-Qaeda runs roughshod. Same non-future developing in Afghanistan. Why do arab nations hate us so? Pogo, where are you when we need you.

Done died and gone to heaven. A week of silence in Louisiana capped off with Friday night supper at Prejean’s Restaurant, Lafayette. Cajun seafood and a cajun band. If I lived here in Grand Coteau I’d have two meals a day at Prejean’s. I’d be dead at the end of two weeks, but it would have been two weeks in heaven, which is more than I’ll get anyway. But Prejean’s serves breakfast too, so make that three meals a day. I did the math: if two meals a day would give me two weeks to live, three meals a day would give me three weeks to live. Worth every spoonful. The gumbo is literally to die for.
