Quite early to be Sunday morning already, and sunrise not due for three hours yet, but things to do, places to go and people to see.

No dark chocolate with me out here on 7H porch, but the coffee is black and, not still hot but, warm, as I've been out here some twenty minutes already. Looking south, the sky is clear, 76F dropping to 75 by 5AM, ninety percent humidity but a cool breeze coming from the east. Lightning in the eastern sky and now has moved round to the south over the Gulf of Mexico directly before me.

A sliding door opens, not Linda, so has to be our neighbor. A widower, he lives alone.

Or it could have been a rush of water in the shallow just below. As we sat out here with supper last evening the flat calm suddenly was broken as a shark began thrashing, darting, chasing, likely for mullet. Tomorrow begins October, when mullet will populate that little inlet area, and soon enough their fingerlings.

Yep, lightning. No streaks seen from here, but filling the clouds. My mistake then, that last burst had a huge long streak striking into the Gulf. I'm listening for its thunder, but it's still too far away for the sound to reach 7H.

The breeze is really pleasant up here in the darkness.

Sunday School - what? With these readings,
Esther 7:1-6, 9-10; 9:20-22
Psalm 124
James 5:13-20
Mark 9:38-50
my inclination is the Esther story. But this is our final of five Sundays with the Letter of James, anointing the sick with oil, and the power of prayer,

Mark cobbles together some Jesus Sayings, a cup of water, a stumbling block, being salted with fire, and these horrifying images with references to hell and fire that is never quenched

If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell, where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.

The lightning seems to have eased off now, and my last sip of coffee was room temp, but the breeze is still nice.

No picture this morning, how about a car

Or noting that not only the American Bar Association but also the dean of Yale Law, and of Harvard Law, have called for FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh; and the Jesuits, who educated him have called for his nomination to be withdrawn. Me? a father of daughters, if I must choose, I am always on the woman's side. Just so now. But then, this doesn't need to be a political fight, it needs to be a quest for the best possible person.

A black Chevrolet SSR tagged along beside us as we drove between Gulf Breeze and Fort Walton on Friday afternoon. Powerful and to me highly desirable car. But I'd prefer red, or yellow. The cab roof drops to make it a convertible, and the rear is a classy pickup bed.
