Oatmeal&Raisins and Shrimp&Grits
Saturday morning, looks nicer than Friday, sunny but 40° with wind from the north at 13 mph and "feels like 33°" isn't appealing for the Mardi Gras festival that's going on in StAndrews yesterday and today. Finishing my hot and Black (my politically correct pc is now spell-checking black to a capital B), no matter.
The protests over the 15 year old Russian ice skater being allowed to compete on the ice in China were shamefully self-righteous shows of jealousy that the media could have spared us.
The media will make the most of this as well: inevitable the family's anger over the two year prison sentence given the White woman, the former police officer who in a moment of panic grabbed her pistol instead of her stun gun and shot and killed the young Black man. The media will make big over it, feigning outrage and stirring up protests, but the fact is, the System not the mob is supposed to decide sentences. I would be angry too, even tempted to take the law into my own hands with a firearm of my own to exact an innocent eye for an innocent eye; but that doesn't change that in a nation of law even the heartbroken next of kin do not get to make these legal decisions. We will know things have changed, however, when the mob action moves the government to step in and please the crowd by overriding with a harsher prison sentence.
Linda still gets the PCNH, delivered every morning by a kind paper carrier who leaves it on the chair outside our front door so we don't have to bend down to pick it up from the walkway. Appreciated and we try to show gratitude when the bill comes once a year and again when the hopeful Christmas Gift envelope is left in December. To us, the paper isn't as bad as some folks have it, there's a bit of news, and there are the obits, and the comics and the puzzles, Linda does the crossword and sometimes I do the Sudoku, and there's always Dear Abby with a sometimes titillating story. If I have a complaint, and I don't because we leave it to Linda to decide whether to continue receiving PCNH, but if I did it would be that Shrimp and Grits is a stupid substitute for whatever was there before. Shrimp and Grits is supposed to be Pogo redivivus but it isn't, I remember Pogo and this ain't Pogo.
Nice breakfast, Irish oatmeal loaded with plump, sweet raisins, sprinkle of demerara sugar and half&half poured over. Inevitable the 79/51 bp drop but worth it and a short nap is the remedy.
Vessel, Waalborg 351x60 arriving to load Kraft liner. I missed getting a snapshot, so pinched one off the internet. The Bay pic is yesterday's delightful winter gloom, but every day is a beautiful day, as when you get to this age you will see!

THERE was a blogpost yesterday, "Huckleberry Finn" which I decided not to post on Facebook, but it's there on +Time if anyone wants to see it.
