All the News That's Fit to Print

This blogpost is a work in progress, I keep coming back and adding stuff.

In 1897, Adolph S. Ochs, the owner of The New York Times, created the famous slogan "All the News That's Fit to Print," which still appears on the masthead of the newspaper today. He wrote the slogan as a declaration of the newspaper's intention to report the news impartially.

On the international health front, a new covid variant. This is news but not a surprise, as creatures of this sort have a life of their own just as much so as any army of ants or nation of humans. Covid just wants to win, and may keep evolving until it does; but more likely that in Time it will resign itself to just lurking ready to pounce.

Florida's legislature is reportedly contemplating a law that some are calling "don't say gay" - - I don't know, haven't been keeping up with it, but it sounds right for our slide into the Dark Ages. Plummet, I should say plummet, not slide. When government lawmakers and executives take upon themselves the power to dictate what people can say, you've got big probs, dude.

National and international. Russia poised to invade Ukraine. We get the news of a phone chat:

Biden: If you invade Ukraine our response will be swift and severe.

Putin: OMG, that sounds really scary. Hey, man, thank you for the warning. Boy, am I glad we talked.

The good news is that Camilla will be "her majesty" after all, and Will & Kate are getting Windsor Castle as a gift.

Oh, and something about the Kardashians, so thankful the tv news keeps us up to the minute on whoever and whatever that is all about.

Yesterday we cooked a boneless leg of lamb roast, about six and a half pounds. Seared it at 450°F for fifteen minutes, then turned the oven down to 325° and stuck the meat thermometer in. We took it out of the oven when the temp read 122° to set it on the countertop and watch the proof of the assurance "it will continue to cook" after removal from the oven. About fifteen minutes as the meat thermometer climbed from 122° to 140° by which Time the vegetable was ready. Cut the lamb to find it medium with a slightly pink center. Going to have it again today for Sunday dinner after church, but this Time with a glass of red wine.

Yesterday while Kris was in Tallahassee we drove out to her PCB apartment to visit with and feed Pacey. Pacey is a Maine cooncat. Pacey likes us, but if a Maine cooncat doesn't like you, don't mess with.

After dinner and treats, Pacey came over and marked Linda's purse as his own.

Yesterday after reading an article "Faith in the Metaverse" in PCNH, I checked out VR Church. What do you think?

Sunday morning breakfast.

Happy day.
