Spelling "fun"

“Fun” is spelled S-E-C

Who besides me witnessed that enormous beam on Coach’s face as he burst across the field to shake Brady Hoke’s hand? I’ve seen Steve Spurrier slam his hat to the ground with an enraged grimace, but never saw him smile so huge. The only 2012 game to equal yesterday’s Outback Bowl was Alabama v. Georgia for the SEC championship.

Yes, in the rector’s absence we played and sang “Hail to the Victors Valiant” at church to cheer Michigan on the Sunday before their predictable September 1 debacle against Alabama. But my football loyalties are strange and tempered, including lifelong gratitude for Steve Spurrier’s time at Florida as quarterback and headcoach; but also and especially, Fr. Tom is always for Amy. Fr. Tom is never against Amy, even in the Swamp. So the Gamecocks - Wolverine game yesterday was an exercise in high tension. Even the final eleven seconds, because by then Michigan had proved that anything could happen.

And that was not a first down. “It ain’t nothing ‘til I call it” don’t generally go in football, but it SAH did yesterday even against the chain. A holy man cannot say dubyateeeffoh but a sailor sure as aitch can.

Florida over Louisville today, odd match, as was FSU v. NIU.

“Roll Tide” will never profane my lips but “SEC” will and does and Monday we should see that Notre Dame was overrated all season.
