Friday at Boulder Campground

Nighttime, moonlight on the river, ducks swimming In the moonlight. Mother osprey is there (she hardly ever leaves the nest), chicks are sleeping.

Father osprey arrives with a small fish, which basically he eats.

Early, sun's not up yet, father osprey arrives with a larger fish. Mother osprey comes over to inspect and receive it from the father bird.

Mother bird commences to work on the fish, she always starts at the front tip, tearing the lips off and eating that herself, that and the other hard parts, not feeding the chicks, whichever one arrives first, until she gets to the softer parts, although they are getting big enough to eat pretty much all of it, but not quite yet.

Clutching the fish, she may move to the other side of the nest, evidently to be closer to their stretching out mouths. As she settles, rapid flapping of the fish tail indicates that it's still alive. Don't withdraw in revulsion, if you love watching nature, including the raising of nestlings, the ospreys' enjoying their fresh caught fish is part of it and consistent with the creation stories at Genesis 1 and 2.

Friday, it's Friday morning, and we have places to go and people to see.

Interesting to watch the light change by the minute as, the sun rising, the nest sticks change color from black and gray to lighter and yellow and orange.
