procrastination

What this morning, then? Deliberately, as is my want, procrastinating a couple of tasks by doing something less important but fun instead: reading news online, news articles.

A Navy SEAL confounding Navy prosecutors by confessing on the witness stand under oath, that he, not the man charged, killed the ISIS teen.

Trump calls back a tit-for-tat strike against Iran (for shooting down our drone) after the strike is already underway.

An article analyzing the Pompeo Bolton Trump relationship and interactions especially vis a vis Iran.

An article about Supreme Court justices, the views, approaches and philosophies of each justice on honoring and overturning long established precedent and the factors each justice considers, including implications and likely ramifications thereof.

An article about automobile branding, with back and forth about why GM should or should not discontinue their GMC brand (as they did Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and), as they, according to the article, are slowly moving with regard to Buick.

Procrastinating includes injecting my own thoughts into each - -

That as a junior Navy officer sixty years ago, one of the collateral duties I enjoyed most was serving as defense counsel for sailors accused of various offenses. Truth aside, because the justice system is not about truth, it's about winning, I could appreciate the Perry Mason scenario in the courtroom when the Navy prosecution's key witness on the stand under oath said he himself was the killer and not the defendant. And, protected by immunity, the man could not now himself be charged. Masterful! Or else the Navy's investigators and prosecutors are rank amateurs.

The act of provoking and initiating yet another war is beyond the pale of evil, and counter to consideration of US vital national interests that was once a marker for going to war. I appreciate that Trump had second thoughts. And turns out, he says, that he cancelled the strike because it was far out of proportion, which under the rules of war and decency is not allowed.

To have the likes of John Bolton grabbing the steering wheel of foreign policy and its use of military force is terrifying.

Interesting to read about the inclinations of each Supreme Court justice, personality on the bench, and how they seem to consider things. The matter of overturning historic rulings is in people's minds because of new state laws on abortion that are specifically intended to challenge, and overturn with a conservative court, Roe v Wade. But anyone who thinks that precedent should always rule should remember that but for precedent overturned, black Americans would not be allowed to vote, and we might even still have slavery in this country.

About car branding? IDK. Fiat Chrysler did a positive thing for marketing by rebranding their Dodge truck line as Ram. But, even though I don't currently drive a Buick, my lifelong all time favorite car brand is Buick, I've had a lot of Buicks and would be saddened to see the brand disappear. When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them.

Time to get on with responsibilities that were procrastinated.

Malinda's birthday is next Tuesday. We are going to Sweet Magnolia this morning to select a cake to be baked for celebration.

Breakfast: with black coffee, a hunk of fresh bread from a New Orleans bakery, a chunk of cheese, and a couple of large stuffed olives.
