Monday nap Time

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sitting here Sunday afternoon of Fathers Day receiving news flashes about lightning nearby and hearing distant thunder, watching the gray sky darken to black as the whatever-it-was that tried to become a tropical system but never managed to get it together circles in over us from the Gulf. It may not show on the still screenshot, but in motion it's circling ashore counterclockwise, a low of sorts and a threat lest we relax.

Sixteen days into Hurricane Season 2024 we're warming up and getting there. We've made a list and checked it twice and shopped the things we should have in Linda's car in event of hurricane evacuation. Main thing is a case of bottled water, but we've gathered other recommended articles as well.

Where would we go? Depends on the situation including forecasted track. Most every household has their hurricane history, ours in this iteration of life goes back nearly forty years to summer 1985, when we had three hurricanes, evacuated for the first two, and for the third one said the hell with it and turned out the lights so the roving police would not know we were ignoring the mandatory evacuation.

Hurricane Opal in 1995, when it took us thirteen hours in driving rain and crawling traffic on US90 to get to the hospital garage in Tallahassee for shelter. Had to go on up to US90 as I-10 was closed to us.

For Hurricane Michael in 2018 we were already in Pensacola thanking Goodness that before leaving we had completely cleared our outside spaces even though the threat was minimal - - Holy Jumping Christmas Tree. What to do, where to go, if we get another threat like HMichael? IDK, as I say, it depends. HMichael brought on our ten month hurrication into Walton County that lasted from October 2018 into August 2019 when Harbour Village was sufficiently repaired and renovated to move back in 7H. Is there a point where you give up and relocate? I thought so after Hurricane Michael, but where would we go, there's no place without problems, is there! At least with hurricanes there's usually Time to evaluate, make your decisions, and either hunker down or clear out.

What was I going to say? IDK, a decent sleep and, waking up, is it tomorrow yet, or is it still yesterday? It's early dark o'clock Monday, magic mug of hot & black nearly finished, a sip or two left, but still hot and perfect in my magic mug. Nap coming on though because an unusual yea unto extraordinary treat with the coffee, a slice of raspberry O&H Kringle that Linda found in the bottom of the freezer, but now it's brought on the heavy head, neck and shoulders and lightheaded dizziness that signals the onset of postprandial hypotension. It isn't that I never learn, it's that I ignore.

A happy day in church yesterday, we'll have to do it again soon but with me in the pew with Linda. No, I mean that, maybe we'll return to greet the Interim Priest when she/he arrives, hopefully next month, instead of waiting possibly many months for a new rector to be selected and settle in.

I love that "hopefully" has finally been declared acceptable in place of the awkward "it is to be hoped that" - - language is formed by usage and, as Humpty Dumpty said to Alice,

"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less. ' 'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'"

That isn't the question at all. Alice seems rather priggish about language here, and I'm with Humpty Dumpty, words mean whatever we intend them to mean, nomesane?

Hopefully, as I'm standing before St Peter at the Pearly Gate he won't pull a lever to open a trap door that drops me into Hell just because we don't agree that language evolves.

Pete and I probably won't agree on the perfect car either. My favorite might be a 1936 Pontiac Silver Streak that has been updated with a modern V8, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, and seat belts. But I wander, don't I. So what, it's my blog.
