Richard Rohr, Franciscan, Father Richard's meditations this week are on Unknowing, the Transcendence, i.e., of God who cannot be known but only related to. Again in Richard, I find a shipmate: a confident intellect who is willing to admit that there are no answers and is comfortable venturing there; the other side of creeds and doctrine, knowing that we do not know, that there is no certainty, only faith, which is not knowledge but "confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1, NIV). This coming Sunday we start reading from Hebrews and for seven Sundays; but I looked at the lectionary and unfortunately we don't read from chapter 11.

This morning I am comfortable with faith but never with certainty that says, "I know." "We believe" is as far out on the limb as I'll crawl.

We are in Pensacola, Hampton Airport. In an hour, leaving at 4:30 for five o'clock check-in,  we drive the few blocks to Sacred Heart Hospital, Admissions, for Malinda to begin what today, seeing that she will be asleep throughout, may be far harder for her daddy than for her. Kristen evacuated to Fort Walton Beach and stayed overnight with a friend, may be coming on over this morning, she's 25, it's her choice  and we don't know yet.

So, two of my girls this morning, and Hurricane Michael coming viciously ashore tomorrow, apparently right across 7H porch.

Eleison: Kyrie, Christe, Kyrie.
