further up and further in

Maybe a picture before posting this morning from our November digs, a more suitable 3BR 3bath condo farther west on PCB, arranged for the six of us by Britany, whose company is Wyndham. Because of Britany we are able to stay in the area while 7H is made lovable again.

When I was seventeen it was a very good year, but at 17th floor, this space about tops me out: not a spider person, I'm not a heights person either, 7H is about my comfort limit, but 7H is not livable until after some level of storm damage removal, floors, walls, ceilings in the Beck side.

Our years, we lived in our homes during construction work more than once, and each time promised ourselves Never Again. But this time it looks like work may go on maybe into next year, so we'll see. At any event, we count ourselves fortunate in so many ways, including Malinda's improving health and state of mind; insurance coverage for the total loss of Malinda's house and minor damage to 7H; extraordinarily competent and on-top-of-it management team at Harbour Village; and, always chance and risk along the Florida Gulf Coast, that our property and lives were not hit by the worst of Hurricane Michael as so many were. Tried in spirit, more easily tired than earlier in life, stressed, but realistically optimistic and hopeful; not to mention newly ongoing opportunities for Theological Reflection.

Last time we lived this high at PCB, fall 2014, from the 15th floor we watched sea life along the Gulf shore below, schools of manta rays gliding rapidly by like invading otherworld spacecraft, sharks, porpoises, swarms of fish. I don't know if manta rays are seasonal, but we loved seeing them, maybe again this time.

We are to be here through November, then, depending on the livability of 7H, further up and further in with our late life adventure. Long beyond teens and preteens, too old for Narnia but, from this train wreck, watching for Aslan anyway.

From the 17th floor looking eastward according to iPhone compass, across still developing PCB, West Bay in the distance; the roofline and rail don't really bend, it's a pano shot.

Hurricane recovery work going on in 7H, thanks John!
