Early this morning I read the online weekly lectionary-oriented weekly meditation of a friend and realized with a jolt, that Sunday, August 6th, for which I’ve otherwise already somewhat prepared, is one of the church’s obligatory feasts that sneak up on one:

2. Sundays
All Sundays of the year are feasts of our Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to the dated days listed above, only the following feasts, appointed on fixed days, take precedence of a Sunday:
The Holy Name, January 1
The Presentation, February 2
The Transfiguration, August 6

So here I am nearly ready to go, having prepared for Proper 13 when the actual Propers are The Transfiguration. These things slip up on one. Thinking they may have slipped by the parish office as well, I’m leaving now so as to go by the church before this morning’s walk and breakfast and later meeting midmorning, to pick up a copy of the worship bulletin/booklet for this coming Sunday, August 6, 2017, The Transfiguration (“surprise, surprise, surprise” to quote Gomer or Goober) or Proper 13 that continues our walk through Genesis bible stories and Matthew’s gospel.  No matter, I am the world’s most patient and flexible man, but once before I showed up in the pulpit with a sermon for the wrong Propers, and I’ve been more cognizant ever since.
